Log Your Database Objects' Execution
How do you know if your T-SQL code runs successfully and accomplishes what it is meant to? This talk will discuss a generic framework for testing/logging results from your database scripts, stored procedures, and other T-SQL coded objects. Called the TVL framework (Time, Vary, and Log) it contains a library of functions that can be directly integrated into SSMS, Visual Studio, and be used with various development/testing methodologies.

6:00 Networking and Refreshments 6:30 Announcements 6:45 Dynamic Programming in a Statically Typed World
Dynamic Programming in a Statically Typed World: One of the key pillars of .NET 4.0 is the inclusion of dynamic language support. Many languages have tended to stick to static or dynamic typing.
With .Net 4.0, Visual Basic and C# are uniquely positioned to straddle the fence and work equally well in both the static and dynamic worlds. We will show how to take advantage of the new dynamic language enhancements. We'll also demonstrate some cases where you should and shouldn't use these dynamic features.

6:00 Networking and Refreshments 6:30 Announcements 6:45 Kinect Hacks 101
Kinect Hacks 101
The Kinect has been the surprise hit of the year for Microsoft. The moment developers found out you can plug the Kinect into a PC, everyone started trying to replicate scenes from The Minority Report. At my company, Razorfish, the first thing we built was a mash-up of a WPF physics engine and the Kinect in order to port our DaVinci surface app into a gesture-based experience. Since those first efforts we've continued to build app after app for the Kinect as the APIs have evolved. In this session, I will briefly summarize the 30-year history of gesture research and its sci-fi inspirations. I will cover the state of the current ecosystem for Kinect hacking. Finally, I will also show you what we have learned and how you can get started building your own Minority Report experience in your living room.
About James Ashley: James Ashley is a Presentation Layer Architect for the Razorfish Emerging Experiences Team, based in Atlanta, Georgia. James runs the Silverlight Atlanta User Group with Corey Schuman. He is also an organizer of ReMIX South. He specializes in WP7, Surface, Kiosk and Tablet programming with WPF and Silverlight.

MVC @ 3: Choice For ASP Developers
After many years with a single focus, ASP.Net now has more than one flavor.
WebForms, MVC and WebMatrix are all built on the same ASP.Net core, so how's a developer to choose?
In this session we'll take a closer look at ASP.Net MVC and why you might choose it.
We'll build a simple demo site to explore some of the new bits of MVC3 and take a walk through an MVC2 project that is in the process of moving to 3.
We'll also talk about how the different flavors of ASP.Net give developers the option of working in a style that suits them.
About Jeff Ammons: Jeff is a Senior Developer with Black Book with an eclectic development background that includes heavy doses of Java and PL/SQL as well as a variety of Microsoft Technologies. For fun he publishes phone apps and webcomics. He began tinkering with MVC in 2008 when he undertook a re-write of the blog and comics engine he had begun with WebForms.

Silverlight 5 for Line of Business
What's new with Silverlight? Learn about the existing state of Silverlight and what is coming in a few months with the beta release of Silverlight 5. Jeremy covers the new features announced by Microsoft and discusses their impact on line of business applications.
The Visual State Manager in Silverlight
The Visual State Manager (VSM) is a key component of the "states and parts" engine that drives lookless controls in Silverlight. The VSM provides a clean separation of UI concerns including transitions and animations from the business logic that drives a control. Learn how the VSM works, best practices for designing controls using the VSM, and how VSM works with the MVVM framework to allow complete control over navigations and transitions while keeping a clean separation between code and design.
